Betsy has been paddling since 2006. In 2011 she was selected as a member of the ACT representative team, ACT Fire, at the Australian National Dragon Boat Championships. Betsy accompanied the Australian Auroras as massage therapist to the team during their recent successful campaign at the 2011 World Dragon Boat Championships held in Tampa, USA, in August.Betsy's other sporting interests include running, cycling and surfing. Betsy currently paddles with the Dragon Flyers.

Sam Williams - Membership Officer, ICT Director

Sam has been a Dragon Boat paddler since 2007 joining St. Edmunds College school team. Since then Sam has been an active member of the Dragon Boat community. He has undertaken coaching responsibilities with junior teams, become a fully accredited sweep, competed in national and international competitions and continuously helps out in any way he can.

Sam was appointed to the role of ICT director in June 2010 and later membership officer in November 2010. His interests include web application development and digital photography. When not dragon boat paddling, Sam is studying for his Bachelor of Science degree at the Australian National University.

Deb Whitfield has recently been appointed to this role. Deb brings a wealth of experience with her, including having worked as a member of the 2011 Australian Championships Organising Committee. Deb currently paddles for Dragons Abreast.

 

Michele Moroney - Vice President

Michele started paddling in a corporate regatta in 1992 and from there it all became serious, when Michele qualified to represent Australia in 1992 at the World Championships in Yue Yang in China. Michele paddled with Capital Dragons from 1992 to 1998 and then joined Navmat Dragon Boat Racing Club and has been a member of this club since.  During Michele’s career of paddling, Michele has competed at many local, national and international events.  Has represented the ACT at Nationals and represented Australia in the Auroras team at the 2011 World Dragon Boat Championships held in Tampa USA.  The women’s Senior B category that Michele paddled with won 4 SILVER medals. Michele has been on the CDBA Committee as Vice President since 2002.  Is a Life Member of the CDBA and was awarded with the naming of BOAT 2 at the CDBA presentation Night 2011.

 

Ming Tang - Treasurer

Ming Tang has been Dragon Boat racing since 2004 after trying it out for the first time during a Dragons Abreast Corporate Regatta. Ming quickly took up the sport joining Canberra Navmat.

Paul Ryan - Development Officer

After taking up dragon boating three years ago, Paul has paddled for clubs in Queensland and the ACT, as well as competed at Nationals and overseas events in China. Currently a member of the Ice Dragons team, Paul brings to the CDBA a background of sports administration at club and state level in Queensland. Paul's attraction to dragon boating is based on the sport's wide appeal to people of all ages, and its great ability to improve fitness levels and act as a catalyst for new social interactions.

Gillian Styles - Technical Director

Gillian has been paddling since 2004 begining as a member of Dragons Abreast and then moving to the Dragon Flyers. Gillian holds qualifications as fully accredited IDBF and AusDBF official. She is heavily involved in Dragon Boating, and has also trained as a registered sweep. Gillian has paddled in two Club Crew World Championships as well as represented the ACT in the Australian Championships. As Technical Officer for CDBA she aims to increase and support member’s awareness of the rules and regulations of the sport and therefore the safety and enjoyment for all participants.

I enjoy the sport and am committed to contributing what I can to improve the sport for others.
