The CDBA's Chinese New Year Regatta was another great success with 24 Corporate Teams fighting it out for the glory and the bragging rights around the photocopier. Check out the results on the Regatta page.

The CDBA has a number of pieces of equipment that are available for CDBA members and Teams to use. An online calendar has been set up that can be viewed on the Equipment Booking page, so you can see when equipment such as the erg is available

Have you ever wondered why 22 people would want to move an 11 metre long boat down a racing course as fast as they can?

Or maybe why groups of paddlers would go out on the Lake in the early evening (and mornings), enjoying some social interaction and keeping their minds and bodies active?

Wonder no longer - come and join a large group of dragon boaters here in the ACT. Over 600 men and women are involved in the sport locally; from school teams to sporting teams. Some like the competitive nature of the racing, others like the exercise and being involved in a team sport - there's something for everyone.

Never stand between a dragon boater and a coffee machine

What do you need to get into dragon boating?

  • a sense of adventure
  • don't mind getting wet occasionally, it is a water sport after all
  • a sense of rhythm; for the social functions, the drummer keeps everyone in time in the boats

How do you get started?

Get in contact with one of the CDBA teams and have a trial paddle with them. Once you're hooked, and you will be, you can join the team (which includes the CDBA membership) and you're away.

Tips and Tricks for Newbies

It is a water sport and you may get splashed while in the boat, or occasionally have to wade in the water while getting in or out of a boat - so wear suitable clothes and shoes that will dry out. If there is a breeze, a spray jacket is a good idea.

You'll be out on the water, so if you can't swim or aren't a strong swimmer, let us know and we can fit you out with a stylish flotation vest. The paddling action can put a strain on your shoulders, although it is up to you how much. If you have an old injury or get the odd twinge, let us know and we'll take you through the best way to avoid any problems.
